Replacing the Cracked Mirrors in Your Life
Sometimes in life, we get a false perception of who we truly are. Life traumas, things we see in society, or things we hear others say about us cause a distortion of who we really are. These distortions cause us to look at ourselves like we are looking into a cracked mirror. The view of ourselves is distorted, and these lies affect how we live our lives. Today, I want to talk to you about getting rid of the cracked mirrors in your life so that the rest of your life is the best of your life!
A few years ago, my husband and I went on a trip. I took a mirror with me, and when I began to unpack I saw that the mirror had cracked. Now, this was a hand mirror that I used every single day to apply my makeup. As I used it, it certainly created a sort of wonky perception of myself, but would you believe I kept that cracked mirror for months? Everyday, I looked at this distorted reflection of myself. This got me thinking about other areas of my life where I had distortions about who I was, and how they might be affecting me.
I started to look at things in my life and ask myself, “What are the things I’m believing that aren’t true?” I had a new awakening that my identity could not come from the reflection in the mirror, because this reflection was flawed. I started cleaning things out of my life that were affected by this distortion, and through this I began to learn where my identity must come from.
My identity and my reflection are from Christ himself and no one else.
I could only understand and believe things about myself that Christ said was true. Not society, not Facebook, and not even my own family who loves me. Certainly, I could not depend on my own thoughts and emotions, because over time we begin to believe things that aren’t true. What society and what others say about us sink in, and those lies start to change how we see ourselves.
I want to encourage you to stop looking in cracked mirrors. Start looking at yourself with the innate identity that Christ gives you. He is our true north. He is the one who tells us who we are.
Christ says I am victorious. I am the head, not the tail. I have peace. I am not oppressed, and I do not live in fear. I have the spirit of wisdom and revelation, which God conveys creative ideas to me. I am a new creation and I am so much more than all of these things.
YOU are so much more!
So what does this mean for a middle-aged woman who’s launching a non-toxic skin care line at the age of 55? When I look in that cracked mirror it shows me lies. What I see is fear. It says I can’t do this in my own power. It’s too late. These are things we tell ourselves, and they must be banished.
I met with a woman recently who was in a very stressful situation at her job. I told her, “You know what, it maybe at some point you’re going to leave that job and move on.” She replied with, “No, at my age I’m completely stuck.” I reject this notion.
In Him, you are not stuck!
Folks, get rid of the cracked mirrors in your life. When we focus on who He says we are, we are not stuck. It’s not too late, and you have so much more left in you. Just look to Him. Do not look to the external world or anywhere else to get your true identity. Then, you can step into a bigger and better second half of your life than you could ever imagine.
